(And why does the city want to pour money into a literal hole, filling in the reservoir basins to create ballfields when nearby ballfields are already underused and ill-maintained because, hey, the city’s short on funds?)

I can understand that there might be a need to improve neighborhood park access for local families. But ballfields aren’t really public amenities. At least in my area, ballfields tend to be fenced in, with big signs warning people to stay off the field. (Geese, of course, ignore the signs and eat and poop on the ballfields as much as they want.) I don’t really see the point of taking a public space and turning it into a semi-private one.
